Simulations of Near-Field Intensity Modulations in High-Intensity Laser Beams due to Self- and Cross-Phase Modulation Between Orthogonally Polarized Laser Beams Emerging from a Diamond-Turned KDP Wedge

چکیده

232 LLE Review, Volume 76 The near-field intensity modulation due to a diamond-turned KDP wedge is investigated through computer simulations within the framework of its application to LLE’s OMEGA laser system. KDP wedges will be installed on each OMEGA beamline and mounted 12 m away from the final focusing optics. The wedges will improve the direct-drive inertial confinement fusion uniformity by a process known as polarization smoothing. Diamond turning is the finishing process of choice due to the greater cost incurred by installing polished KDP crystals on every beamline.

Self- and Cross-Phase-Modulation Coefficients in KDP Crystals Measured by a Z-Scan Technique

LLE Review, Volume 74 125 In the interaction of strong fields with matter, considerable interest has been shown in the development of high-efficiency frequency up-conversion of ultrashort laser pulses. One important area of interest is in ultrafast laser–solid interactions where up-conversion can lead to higher absorption due to higher-density interactions1 and to an enhancement of the pulse-in...

Sensitivity Enhancement of Ring Laser Gyroscope Using Dielectric-Graphene Photonic Crystal

In a ring laser gyroscope, due to the rotation and the Sagnac effect, a phase difference between the two counter-propagating beams is generated. In this device, the higher phase difference between these two beams causes the better the interference pattern detection, and thus the sensitivity is increased. In this paper, the effect of inserting a dielectric-graphene photonic crystal inside a ring...

Controlling Nonsequential Double Ionization in Two-Color Circularly Polarized Femtosecond Laser Fields.

Atoms undergoing strong-field ionization in two-color circularly polarized femtosecond laser fields exhibit unique two-dimensional photoelectron trajectories and can emit bright circularly polarized extreme ultraviolet and soft-x-ray beams. In this Letter, we present the first experimental observation of nonsequential double ionization in these tailored laser fields. Moreover, we can enhance or...

Observation of resonant energy transfer between identical-frequency laser beams*

Enhanced transmission of a low intensity laser beam is observed when crossed with an identical-frequency beam in a plasma with a flow velocity near the ion sound speed. The time history of the enhancement and the dependence on the flow velocity strongly suggest that this is due to energy transfer between the beams via a resonant ion wave with zero frequency in the laboratory frame. The maximum ...

Intensity-dependent phase-matching effects in harmonic generation

In high-order harmonic generation by an intense laser, intrinsic phases can develop at the atomic level between the laser field and the individual emitted harmonics. Because intrinsic phases can vary rapidly with the laser intensity, they can strongly influence phase matching to the extent that the laser intensity varies within the generating medium. Previously reported measurements of broad fa...
